Juliann O’Brien

Juliann O’Brien is deeply committed to her profession as an elementary school educator. She has dedicated her career to teaching first and second graders. Currently, Juliann serves as an elementary first-grade teacher at Scotch Elementary School within the West Bloomfield School District.

Juliann pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in teaching at Marygrove College, where she also obtained a ZA Endorsement to support her work with younger students. Subsequently, she advanced her education at Oakland University, earning a Master’s Degree in Reading.

She finds great joy in both acquiring new knowledge and imparting it to her students. Juliann is enthusiastic and encourages her students to explore, foster curiosity, be creative, and develop skills in designing and engineering. From a young age, she inspires them to view themselves as designers and engineers.

Juliann’s students have participated in the Michigan Design Prize since its inception in 2016. Throughout the years, she has seen many of her students emerge as winners. Twice, Juliann has been fortunate enough to have two winners in a single year. Juliann takes great pride in being recognized as the Teacher Ambassador for the Michigan Design Council.

Outside of her teaching duties, she enjoys leisure activities such as reading, tending to her garden, and spending quality time with her family and friends. Juliann is blessed with a loving family, including a wonderful husband and three amazing adult sons. Two sons who have pursued careers in engineering and one son has a career in robotics. All three sons enjoy their jobs.
