Tom is responsible for developing and applying innovation processes and tools across the Medical and Instruments divisions. Prior to this role, Tom led the Advanced Concepts Group at Stryker Medical. His team was responsible for researching, exploring and developing new product and business opportunities while also building internal capabilities with an emphasis on human centered design, industrial design, and innovation.
Tom has over 28 years of experience in both corporate and consulting environments with the majority of his focus on the front end of new product development. His experience includes leadership roles in industrial design, research, advanced concepts, marketing, program management, and innovation. He has worked in-house for Panasonic, Herman Miller and Stryker and consulted, while at Sundberg-Ferar, for a variety of companies including Whirlpool, Sears, Rubbermaid Health and Specialty Products, 3M Healthcare, Long Island Railroad, Rockwell, and Attwood Marine Products
Tom is a frequent speaker at universities and conferences on the topics of product development, research, design, and innovation and has been assisting with a graduate level integrated product development class at the University of Michigan for 19 years. He is also a member of the Marketing Department Advisory Board for Grand Valley State University.
Tom has a BFA in Industrial Design and a MBA in Marketing, both from the University of Michigan.
